Building Energy
Your biggest energy leak is the door that keeps opening.
Every time an automatic door opens, the air you have paid to heat or cool walks out and the street walks in. The FAAC AirSlide builds an air curtain into the door itself — so the entrance stays open for people and closed for your energy bill.
A brand of FAAC Technologies
The entrance is the hole in your thermal envelope
A building can be well insulated everywhere except the one place it has to stay open. On a busy frontage an automatic door can cycle thousands of times a day, and every cycle swaps conditioned inside air for unconditioned outside air. The heating or cooling plant simply works harder to put back what the doorway keeps giving away.
It is felt as well as metered: the cold draught across the first few metres of a shop floor, the reception desk nobody wants to sit at in winter, the dust and street fumes that drift in on the same air. A wider, busier entrance only makes all of it worse.
You cannot fix it by keeping the door shut — people have to get in. You fix it by changing what happens while the door is open.
Air curtain technology
An invisible barrier of moving air across the opening
An air curtain is a controlled stream of high-velocity air directed across a doorway. It forms an aerodynamic seal that resists the free exchange of air between inside and outside — the door is physically open, but the air is not simply flowing through it. Conditioned air is held in; draughts, dust, fumes and insects are held out.
The FAAC AirSlide is a sliding door with that air curtain built directly into it. Instead of an automatic door on the frame and a separate air-curtain heater bolted above it, the barrier is integrated into the door's own transom as a single certified product — engineered to work with the door's movement rather than around it.
Paired with the FAAC A1400 AIR operator, its Energy Saving system reads the walking path. It fine-tunes the opening and closing times, so the door is never held open longer than the person needs — and that is where a great deal of the wasted air usually goes.

An air barrier is easier to watch than to describe
FAAC's own product films show what the air curtain is doing while the door is open.
What that is worth
FAAC's figures for the AirSlide, measured against a conventional automatic entrance.
- up to 62%
- more energy efficient at the entrance
- up to 62%
- better indoor air quality
- up to 48%
- improved environmental comfort
“Up to” figures published by FAAC; actual results depend on the entrance, the climate control behind it and how the door is configured.

Functions & features of the AirSlide
- The air curtain is built into the door
- The air barrier is integrated into the sliding door transom rather than bolted on as a separate overhead heater. One certified unit, one clean installation, one thing to maintain — not a door and an air curtain fighting each other.
- It only spends energy on people, not on empty air
- Paired with the FAAC A1400 AIR operator, the Energy Saving system reads the walking path as someone approaches. It holds the door open for exactly as long as that person needs, and no longer. So your conditioned air stays inside — even when people are crossing in both directions.
- Self-resetting anti-panic breakout
- An integrated breakout system that meets EN 16005 and is certified for use on an emergency exit. It resets itself automatically after use — so the safest door is also the one you don't have to re-arm by hand.
- Cleaner air, not just warmer air
- The same barrier that holds conditioned air inside also keeps out smog, dust, dirt and insects from the street. That's why it turns up in hospitals, food retail and airports as much as in offices.
- Remote monitoring
- Simply Connect compatible, so the door's status can be checked and managed remotely rather than only from a ladder in front of it.
- Certified performance
- EN 16005 for automatic pedestrian door safety, plus FAAC's SAFEzone and GREENtech certification for the air-barrier system.

Where it earns its keep
Anywhere a wide, busy, all-day entrance sits between a conditioned interior and the weather — and anywhere the air itself has to stay clean.
- Shops and retail
- Supermarkets
- Offices
- Banks
- Hospitals
- Airports
- Railway stations
It is also, underneath the air curtain, a full automatic sliding door — so it carries the passage widths, safety sensing and anti-panic breakout you would specify anyway.
